Obituary: Myers, Joyce Elenor (Matzger)

Age 85

MYERS, Joyce Elenor (Matzger) Joyce went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 18, 2013 with her family in attendance.

Her eyes opened to behold her Lord and be reunited with her father, mother, brother, sister, husband, and son Brett.

Joyce was born in Colfax Washington on September 12, 1927, along with her twin sister, Janice Elizabeth Matzger Tinnel, to Charles Sam Matzger, Nina Lee Matzger, and her older brother Charles William Matzger.

How she left this world, who went before her, and who she leaves behind is not as important as how she lived her life.

As child she helped with the family grocery business, Matzger Grocery, along with her sister and older brother.

She enjoyed her school activities that included music.

She was a majorette in the Colfax High School marching band and also played the drums.

In the Summer months she was a life guard at the Colfax City Pool at Schmuck Park.

After high school she was a color photo artist at Alden’s Studio in Colfax, where she met Joseph L Myers.

They were married on January 14 1948, at her family home, and Joe took her to the family farm at Diamond WA where she raised four children, William J. Myers, Glenn C. Myers, Sheree Ann Myers Blomster, and Brett L Myers.

The family later moved from the farm to Colfax in 1960.

She was active in Atheneum, Women’s Aglo, Christian Women’s Club, and is listed as an artist by the Colfax Arts Council.

She sang harmony with three of her close friends and they toured regionally as the “Sweet Adelines”.

She also resided in Sandpoint, Idaho and Florence, Oregon.

If you engaged Joyce in conversation it was not long before you were talking about spiritual things.

If you did not know Jesus Christ, she was ready to introduce you to Him.

She could do this with the careless ease of a person who spent many hours with her Lord in praise, worship, and prayer.

She enjoys music, gardening, painting, cooking, her many pets, and of course her four children, six grandchildren and seven great-grand children.

We speak of her in the present tense because she is not dead.

She is in the presence of Jesus Christ.

Joyce wants you to consider two scriptures.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

By her request, there will be no memorial service.
