Obituary: Sheridan, Linda Marie
She grew up in north Spokane where she graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1965.
In her early years, she was mostly known for her tap dancing and, with the Tapping Trio, won “Starlit Stairway”.
She received her degree in Physical Education in 1969 from Washington State University, where she lettered in six-person basketball, which did little to help her later as a coach.
She also was a great skier, and played for the Spokane Lilac Semi-Pro softball team which inspired her to help create the GSL softball league.
Linda is most widely known for her impressive 24-year coaching career in Spokane in both basketball and volleyball.
She became the most successful coach in Spokane history and has been honored in numerous Halls of Fame.
Off the court, Linda would guide her teams to set goals that apply to life.
She encouraged her players to play for the feeling, have fun, and commit to their own and collective experiences.
By linking her teachings to life, she gave hundreds of girls the tools to live fearlessly.
Throughout her teaching and coaching career, Linda reverently held her leadership position with sincere integrity and unconditional love.
In her retirement, she extended her summers at the place she loved most, Priest Lake, traveled extensively, and expanded and shared her love of natural beauty through the lens of her camera.
She had a darn good time pushing her own boundaries and living with an open heart.
While facing ALS, Linda continued to model her profound capacity to find peace, joy, and gratitude.
Linda is survived by her partner of 37 years, Linda Wolcott, and her dog, Ellie Belly Smarty Pants; sisters, Sandra Buss (Jack) of Spokane, and Marsha Williams (Geoff Dodge) of St. Augustine, FL; brother Dell Williams III (Tish) of Moss Beach, CA.
Her family included many, many nieces and nephews all across the country, and her numerous beloved cousins with whom she lived and shared a mutual love of ‘the Island’ and Priest Lake.
The entire Wolcott clan became her extended family as did her heart-daughters, Krista Hudson Young and Kari Hudson Faulks.
Linda’s life was enriched by the hundreds of athletes, students, colleagues and friends, both old and new, that she cherished all her days.
Services will be held Monday, April 29 at 4:00 pm at Shadle Park High School with a gathering to follow at The Lincoln Center in Spokane.
