Obituary: Alfonso, Donald

ALFONSO, Donald It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Alfonso, a much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was born on February 2, 1926 to parents Victor and Angela Alfonso, in Tacoma, Washington.

He served in the US Air Force for 1 Ă‚Ë?

years.

On February 12, 1949 he married Gloria Cozzetto, Spokane, WA.

After living in Tacoma, WA for three years, they relocated to Spokane and have resided here since then.

Four children were born of that union - Victor (wife Suzette), Ricke, Ron and Annette Grimmer (husband Rob).

Always a hard worker and after working in many fields, he settled into a career in 1965 that gave him great joy and success - cars.

Alfonso Auto Sales was a great pride to him.

Always a man of few words, he is best described as God-loving, genuine, honest, caring, unselfish and always extremely generous.

To me, his wife, he was always the provider, protector and loving husband.

He has always embraced and lived his Catholic faith and has been a supporting member of Assumption Parish since the spring of 1969.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Angela Alfonso, sister Dorothy Wells and many close relatives and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 64+ years, Gloria Alfonso; children and spouses; two dear ex-daughters-in-law Teresa Lombardi and Wanda Banta; special “other kids” Steve and Marianne Jolley; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, brother Vic Alfonso (Jody); several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

While he will be deeply missed, we rejoice that Don is now in the embrace of our Heavenly Father.

We offer heartfelt gratitude to Cynthia Rogers and her superb staff at Cornerstone Court for the excellent care, love and support given to Don and our family.

We will never forget you.

A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, April 28th.

A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 3624 West Indian Trail Road, Spokane.

A reception will follow at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 515 West St. Thomas More Way.

Don will be entombed at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.

Gifts in Don’s memory will be welcomed by Catholic Charities, 12 E. 5th Ave, Spokane, WA 99202.

Please visit Don’s online tribute at www.hennesseyfuneralhomes.com, and leave a message of remembrance.

Rest in peace Dad - you will be forever in our hearts.

Ti amo.
