Obituary: Counsell, William “Bill”

Age 91

COUNSELL, William “Bill” Passed away peacefully on July 27, 2013, at Riverview Retirement Community in Spokane while surrounded by his family.

Bill was the child of Henry and Hazel Counsell and was born in Spokane on September 28, 1921.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1940.

He met his future wife of 71 years, Barbara, at the Westminster Hotel, where he worked as a night bellman.

He served in the Army during WWII.

Bill began working at Washington Trust Bank as a messenger in 1946 and continued there until his retirement as V.P., Secretary to the Board, and Security Officer in 1987.

Bill was active in Scouts, PTA, Kiwanis, Friendship Force, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, and Presbytery Synod.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Mary Hole of Spokane, Doug Counsell (Lorelee Bauer) of Des Moines, WA, Dick Counsell (Ann), of Redmond, WA., his grandchildren, Lee Logan (Lisa), Janell Hole, and Alyson Counsell, and great-grandchildren, Jeremy Casper, Seth Logan-Adams, Gabriel and Johnathan Logan, extended family members, as well as numerous “honorary” sons, daughters, and grandchildren, all of whom loved him greatly.

Bill’s unique sense of humor, loving spirit, and lively voice will be remembered and missed by all he encountered.

His family would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Riverview Retirement Community’s Care Center for their continued support during his final weeks.

A memorial service honoring Bill will be held at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave. on Monday, August 5th at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Riverview Retirement Community or Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.
