Obituary: Filippini, Mary A.

Age 90

FILIPPINI, Mary A. Mary A. Filippini went home to the Lord on August 1st, 2013.

Mary Antoinette Filippini was born in Plains, Pennsylvania on June 16th, 1923 to the parents of Stimiliano and Perina (Storti) Filippini.

Mary was the oldest of four children who included two sisters, Linda Jogada, Ida Olsheski and her brother Cal Filippini.

Mary graduated in 1941 from Plains Memorial High School and the same year received her degree in hair dressing from the Empire Beauty School in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

She immediately opened Mary’s Beauty Shop in the same year.

Mary married Leopold D. Filippini on April 15, 1944 in Plains, Pennsylvania and the couple immediately moved to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho where her husband was stationed at Farragut Naval Base.

In 1950 the couple moved to Spokane and built a home where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Mary is survived by her beloved companion Eben Sutton of Sandpoint, Idaho, sister Ida Olshefski of Plains, Pennsylvania and her two sons, Stephen and Charles Filippini, daughter-in-laws Judith and Mary Lou Filippini, grandchildren Carrie Filippini , Katie Filippini, Matthew and (Stephanie) Filippini and one great-grandchild, Breanna Lyn Post.

She opened her own beauty shop in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and worked over the years at the Audubon Beauty Salon in Spokane.

She eventually opened her own shop in her home on the north side.

For forty years she had a full schedule of loyal clientele who stayed with her for decades.

She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Mary loved to go dancing at the Eagles Lodge, Brotherhood of Friends (B.O.F.)

and was a member of North Star.

She liked visiting Northern Quest.

Her favorite activity was to cook Italian dinners at the home and be surrounded by her family.

She was kind, gentle and loved by everyone who knew her.

She was a devoted, hairdresser, wife, mom, grandmother, and a friend to all.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, August 13th at 10:00AM at Hennessy-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane, WA.

99207 Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery and a reception following the service.
