Out & About: Turnbull hosts youth hunt
OUTHUNT – Young hunters can apply for a limited-entry youth waterfowl hunt at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge during Washington’s youth waterfowl hunting weekend at the end of September.
Applications will be accepted until Aug. 15 from licensed hunters under age 16. Hunters will be allowed to use designated hunting sites, accompanied by an adult.
One application per hunter must be submitted on standard U.S. Postal Service postcards and include the youth’s full name, address and telephone number.
Youths may apply with a youth friend or sibling.
Mail postcards to Refuge Manager, Turnbull NWR, 26010 South Smith Road, Cheney, WA, 99004.
Drawing results will be posted on the refuge website by the end of August.
A workshop will be held in partnership with the Spokane Chapter of the Washington Waterfowl Association to select hunting sites, and provide waterfowl identification and hunting tips on the weekend prior to the hunt.

W. Fork Lake trail needs TLC
OUTDO – The Idaho Trails Association is partnering with the Bonners Ferry Ranger District to conduct trail maintenance work on Trail 21 to Hidden and West Fork lakes in the Selkirk Mountains.
Volunteers are needed for the effort from Aug. 11-16
Potential volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two days of trail work.
The Forest Service will provide tools and food.

August bicycling events
OUTPEDAL – Hundreds of cyclists are resting their legs today after Saturday’s Eight Lakes Leg Aches ride west of Spokane. But there’s plenty of events remaining in August, such as:
Le Tour de Koocanusa on Aug. 10 out of Libby, Tour de Lentil metric century on Aug. 17 out of Pullman, White Pine Pedal Mettle on Aug. 17 out of St. Maries, and the Conquer Schweitzer hill climb on Aug. 18.
