Don’t blame the union

It’s refreshing to see that The Spokesman-Review is finally hearing what Spokane firefighters have been saying for some time: Fewer fire trucks, more major fires. Duh!

The chief will back the mayor and the City Council, of course. What else can he do? If he speaks for his employees, his job is at risk.

Enter the City Council. Here we have a once-a-week meeting group of people who should be setting policy, not micromanaging every part of the city. They either don’t know or don’t care about our safety, or they are afraid to raise and spend tax dollars for fear of losing an election.

And, hey, don’t blame the union. State law states the city will negotiate in a fair and timely manner. So, blame yourselves for messing up negotiations.
