Offered The Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA have reportedly offered Brett Brown their long-vacant coaching job. Brown, an assistant with the San Antonio Spurs, was in final discussions Friday night with Philadelphia, according to Yahoo! Sports. The Sixers have been searching for a coach since Doug Collins resigned in April.

Hired The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired longtime NHL head coach Jacques Martin to serve as an assistant under Dan Bylsma. The 60-year-old Martin has spent 17 seasons as a head coach, compiling a 613-481-119 record during stints with St. Louis, Ottawa, Florida and Montreal.

Signed United States forward Juan Agudelo has signed an agreement to join English Premier League soccer club Stoke next January. The club said the 20-year-old Agudelo signed a pre-contract agreement that will take him to Stoke once his contract with New England expires.

• The Charlotte Bobcats have re-signed journeyman point guard Jannero Pargo. Terms were not disclosed.

Indicted Four former Vanderbilt football players have been indicted on five counts of aggravated rape each of an unconscious 21-year-old coed at a campus dormitory in June. Nashville, Tenn., police and the district attorney sent out a release announcing the indictments. Safety Cory Batey, defensive back Brandon Banks, receiver Jaborian “Tip” McKenzie and tight end Brandon Vandenburg also have been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery for an incident tipped to campus officials by surveillance video. Vandenburg also is charged with one count of tampering with evidence and one count of unlawful photography.

Cut UAB receiver Jackie Williams has been dismissed from the football team. Blazers coach Garrick McGee announced that Williams, the team’s leading receiver last year, was let go for “undisclosed reasons.”

Hurt Southern California receiver Marqise Lee left practice after apparently injuring his right shoulder. The All-American appeared to get hurt while attempting to catch a long pass from Cody Kessler. He stayed down on the field before USC’s medical staff escorted him away. Lee told his teammates he would be “fine”.

Finalists The University of Montana has named three finalists in its search for the school’s inaugural softball coach. Search committee chairwoman Jean Gee said the finalists are Oklahoma State assistant coach Tom Gray, McNeese State head coach Mike Smith and Iowa State assistant Jamie Pinkerton. Montana will begin playing softball in the 2014-15 school year.
