Emeralds win in ninth

Eugene keeps Indians bats quiet

EUGENE – Trae Santos’ line-drive single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Chase Jensen and gave the Eugene Emeralds a 3-2 win over the Spokane Indians in Northwest Conference play at PK Park.

After a strikeout to open the ninth, Jensen and Henry Charles hit singles to put runners on first and second before Santos’ walkoff hit.

The Indians’ bats were held at bay for the second straight game. They scored both of their runs in the second inning.

Spokane’s Jordan Akins opened the inning with a solo home run and Marcus Greene later scored on a passed ball.

Eugene (22-32 overall, 9-7 second half) got a run in each of the first two innings. Ronnie Richardson scored on Michael Bass’ sacrifice fly to center field in the first and Charles scored on Anthony Torres’ single to left in the second.

Collin Wiles started and pitched five innings for Spokane (26-28, 6-10). He allowed two runs on seven hits.

Luis Pollorena pitched a scoreless sixth, seventh and eighth before giving way to Keone Kela (0-2), who allowed the winning run.

Eugene starter Vladimir De La Cruz pitched just three innings. Four relievers held the Indians scoreless the rest of the way. Adam Climber (1-0) pitched the ninth and picked up the win.
