Man commits suicide after Spokane Valley standoff

From staff reports
A 27-year-old man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Spokane Valley apartment hours after a standoff with Spokane County sheriff’s deputies began Sunday evening. Deputies were called to the apartment in the 15600 block of East 4th Avenue around 5 p.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The man’s wife called 911, saying she was having a dispute with her husband, and that he was armed and threatening suicide. The wife and her three children were not in the apartment when deputies arrived, and other tenants were alerted. The Spokane County SWAT team and hostage negotiators were called to the scene but could not contact the suspect. A robot sent into the apartment found the man’s body around 10 p.m. Major Crimes detectives are investigating the incident. The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Monday afternoon the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
