Indians roll past Tri-City

PASCO – Richard Alvarez worked five clean innings of relief, Jordan Akins hit his second home run of the season and the Spokane Indians cruised to a 7-2 Northwest League baseball win over the Tri-City Dust Devils Tuesday.

Alvarez (2-2) relieved starter David Ledbetter at the beginning of the fourth inning allowing one hit and striking out seven over the next five innings at Gesa Stadium.

RBI singles by Barrett Serrato and Marcus Greene gave the Indians a 3-0 lead in third before Ledbetter, who struck out two in the first two innings, lost his command. A pair of wild pitches handed the Dust Devils a run back to put the game at 3-1 before the Indians were able to escape the third inning.

In the fifth, Tri-City starter Antonio Senztalea (1-3), who had struck out five, was replaced by Shawn Stuart. After Stuart issued a one-out walk to Greene, Akins blasted one over the left-field fence to double the Indians advantage to 5-1.

Spokane (9-10 second half) added two more runs in the seventh on Ryan Cordell’s single. Tri-City (7-12) grabbed a run in the bottom of the ninth off Indians reliever Ricardo Rodriguez.
