Obituary: Gillespie, H. Leroy

Age 89

GILLESPIE, H. Leroy (Age 89) Lifetime area resident, proud wheat farmer and loving husband, H. Leroy Gillespie, 89 of Pullman, passed away on August 11, 2013 at his Bishop Place residence in the company of family.

Friends may pay their respects at Kimball Funeral Home on Wednesday August 14 from 9:00am to 4:00 pm.

Private family graveside services with vault interment will be held later in the week.

Leroy was born in Pullman on January 31, 1924 to proud parents, Ralph and Edna (McCaw) Gillespie.

He spent the majority of his life as a proud, hard working wheat farmer.

In his earlier years he had attended Washington State University (then Washington State College) pledging the Theta Chi Fraternity.

He was also a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Elks and a member of the Washington State Farm Bureau.

Leroy and his wife Esther were married on July 14, 1974 and have been able to spend 39 grand years of marriage.

One of their favorite activities was taking winter trips to Nevada and Arizona during the winter months.

As a hobby, Leroy occasionally enjoyed playing golf.

He will be greatly missed by his wife and family which include his wife Esther of Pullman; sons Robert (Lola) Gillespie and Melvin Gillespie of Pullman; twin sister Dorothy Skinner of Spokane; sisters Jean Janke and Betty (Jim) Hatley of Pullman; granddaughter Jennifer (Conrad) Arnzen of Craigmont, Idaho; stepdaughters Kathy Lloyd of Colfax and Maxine Williamson of Seattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister June Stevens and brother Donald Gillespie.

The family suggests memorial donations to Friends of Hospice in Pullman or the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Spokane.

Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
