Obituary: Halstrom, Kenneth Herbert

HALSTROM, Kenneth Herbert (Age 89) Of Spokane, WA passed away July 30, 2013.

He was born in Great Falls, Montana to Herbert and Ada Halstrom and grew up in Lewistown, Montana.

He enlisted in the Navy during WWII, did his basic training in Farragut, Idaho and served aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS Witchita in the Pacific Theater.

Ken was recalled to active duty for the Korean War.

In 1963 he once again returned to active duty with the Navy during the Viet Nam War.

Upon retirement in 1977 with a total of 33 years of Active and Reserve Service to his country, Ken settled in Spokane.

He earned an AA degree from SFCC and spent countless hours in service to his community, volunteering at the VA hospital (for 27 years), at the Inland NW Blood Bank and at various other community events involved with his long time membership in the Fleet Reserve Association, the VFW, the American Legion and the U.S.Navy Cruiser Sailors Association.

Ken and his wife of 63 years, Betty, who preceded him in death in 2010, were also long time active members of the Sons of Norway.

Their greatest joy was travelling around the USA , its Territories and to Norway.

A Memorial Service will be held at Assumption Parish, 3624 W Indian Trail Road, Spokane, WA on August 18, 2013 at 2:00pm.

Burial will be in Lewistown, MT.
