Obituary: Gardner, Angela

GARDNER, Angela Born Sept 23, 1918 the second of ten children to Benjamin and Grace Byrne, Angela was raised a farm girl in Western Minnesota riding horse and buggy to school and helping to raise her siblings.

She graduated from St.

Cloud Teacher College and taught briefly before the war.

In World War II she moved to Sioux Falls and taught radio operations to the airmen at the Army-Air Force base.

There she met and married John D. Gardner (Don) and after the war they settled in Southern California where they raised two sons, Timothy John and Thomas Joseph.

She enjoyed bridge, bowling and painting.

She volunteered at the Church and served as a substitute teacher at the St. Bridget, the elementary school her sons attended.

When they went off to college she worked at Sears until she retired in 1984.

From then she moved to Fresno to be near her cousin and dearest friend Ruby McGinty before she moved to Spokane to be nearer her son and grandchildren.

She was a volunteer at Holy Family for 18 Ă‚Ë?

years.

She enjoyed her grandchildren’s games and concerts but in her later years her decline in vision and health limited her severely.

She passed away peacefully in the loving care of hospice house.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; sisters, Rose and Bernice; and brothers, Jack, Bill, Jerry, Ray, and Clarence.

She is survived by her brothers, Don and Joe; her sons, Tim (Lisa) Gardner of Spokane and Tom of Salem; as well as grandchildren, Alec Gardner, Ahren (Nick) O’Neill; and great-granddaughter, Anya.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Mary Badger, Dr. Eric Stucky, Holy Family nursing and Hospice House for their care over the years and especially her last week.
