Effort underway to keep Camp Goodtimes open

Staff report
Area organizations including Mark and Marcy Few’s Coaches vs. Cancer, YMCA of the Inland Northwest and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Spokane are joining to help keep Camp Goodtimes open for kids affected by cancer. The American Cancer Society announced in March it no longer will fund kids’ camps in order to direct more money to cancer research, according to a news release. In response, local organizations vowed to keep Camp Goodtimes East open. The Inland Northwest chapter of the free camp was founded in 1985 and most recently has been held at Ross Point Camp in Post Falls. It accepts children who are cancer survivors as well as their siblings and friends. An event Saturday, “An Evening with Coaches vs. Cancer Featuring Dana Carvey,” will include fundraising for the camp; tickets are available at TicketsWest outlets.
