Sammamish stays alive with 6-5 win

Little League World Series: Austin Oh drove in two runs to cap a six-run third inning to lead Sammamish, Wash., to a 6-5 win over Nashville, Tenn., in a Little League World Series elimination game Tuesday night.

The Northwest champion (3-1) advances to a matchup Thursday against one of the two other teams remaining in the U.S. bracket – Chula Vista, Calif., and Westport, Conn..

In other games, Aguadulce, Panama, beat Taoyuan, Taiwan, 8-7 in an elimination game and Brno, Czech Republic, defeated Grosse Pointe, Mich., 5-3 in a consolation game.

Seized gun could link Hernandez to murder

NFL: A .38-caliber pistol seized after a June 21 car crash in Springfield, Mass., involving a woman from Bristol, Conn., is part of an investigation into a case involving Aaron Hernandez, according to a law enforcement source.

The source did not specify which case the gun is part of, but authorities are investigating the former New England Patriot in connection with a July 2012 double homicide in Boston after they found a car, rented in his name, that matched the description of the vehicle sought in connection with that case.

The star tight end, who grew up in Bristol, has also been charged with murder in the June 17 shooting death of Odin Lloyd. The weapon used in that crime, which authorities say is a .45-caliber Glock pistol, has not been recovered.

Lawson’s girlfriend speaks about scuffle

NBA: Ty Lawson’s pregnant girlfriend told investigators the Denver Nuggets guard pushed her during a fight after she heard him on the phone with another woman.

Both Lawson and Ashley Pettiford were arrested following Saturday’s fight and held over the weekend because of the domestic violence allegations in Centennial, Colo.

Johnson, Thompson lead Storm victory

WNBA: Temeka Johnson scored nine of her 18 points during a key eight-minute stretch in the second half as the Seattle Storm beat the visiting Los Angeles Sparks 77-57.

Tina Thompson added 17 points as the Storm (12-13) outscored the Sparks 14-4 in the fourth quarter.

Nneka Ogwumike had a team-high 12 points for the Sparks (18-8), who snapped a six-game winning streak and finished with a season-low scoring total. Alana Beard and Lindsey Harding scored 10 points each for the Sparks, and Candace Parker finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Seattle lost starting forward Shekinna Stricklen to an Achilles injury midway through the second quarter.

Heat stroke puts Fish on sidelines

Miscellany: American Mardy Fish retired because of heat stroke during the third set of his second-round match at the Winston-Salem Open.

Jarkko Nieminen, the No. 11 seed, was leading Fish 7-5, 6-7 (3), 3-2 when Fish resigned.

• Frank wins stage: Mathias Frank of Switzerland rode to a 3-second win in the second stage of the USA Pro Challenge, while Lachlan Morton of Australia finished in second place to assume the overall lead at Breckenridge, Colo.

Families talking financial settlement: The families of Oscar Pistorius and his slain girlfriend are in contact, a lawyer for Reeva Steenkamp’s parents said.

The communication between the two families is over a possible out-of-court settlement that would compensate the Steenkamps for the killing of their daughter by the double-amputee Olympian, according to South African press reports.
