In brief: Volunteers sought for river cleanup event

SPOKANE RIVER – The Spokane River Cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 28. Last year, volunteers hauled out more than four tons of trash and recycled 2,500 pounds of the items. The River Cleanup is recruiting about 30 volunteers to be team leaders, helping with recycling, carrying extra supplies and assisting with first aid. Team leaders must attend a short evening training meeting a few days before the cleanup at Mountain Gear, 6021 E. Mansfield Ave. Exact day to be announced. Ice cream and free swimming Saturday

WEST CENTRAL – The Spokane Central Lions Club is sponsoring a free, open swim and ice cream day on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the A.M. Cannon Aquatic Center, 1900 W. Mission Ave.
