Obituary: Woehl, Melvin J.

Age 89

WOEHL, Melvin J.

Passed away peacefully and with dignity on August 13,2013 with his daughter, Sue, his nurse and volunteers of Hospice of Spokane by his side.

Melvin was born March 15, 1924 in Fairfax, South Dakota to Hertha and Jacob Woehl.

He graduated from the University of Montana in 1949 and received a Master’s in education from Washington State University in 1957.

On December 21, 1946 he married Rosina Walter Woehl.

During their early years together Melvin and Rosina lived and taught in several towns in Washington and Oregon.

In 1958 Mel and Rosina moved to Spokane where they have resided ever since.

Melvin was an elementary school teacher and principal for 30 years for Spokane Public School District 81.

He was an active member in the church as an elder, VP, treasurer and Sunday School teacher for St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years on June 1, 2012.

Melvin is survived by his daughter, Marianne Drewes (Kevin); son, David J. Woehl (Maria); daughter, Sue N. Reynolds; brother, Donald Woehl, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 4-7pm at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N Pines Rd, Spokane Valley.

Services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5810 S. Meadowlane Rd.

(across from Qualchan Golf Course) on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 11:00.

Melvin was a Military Veteran in World War II and will receive Military Honors at the service.
