Bedingham leads with 67 at city golf tourney
Joe Bedingham fired a 67 at Esmeralda on Friday to take a two-stroke lead in the open division at the Odom Spokane City Championship golf tournament.
He led Ben Nelson, Dan Ashlock and Kenyan Fanslow, all at 69.
Gary Holt and Tim Bedingham led the senior division at 69 with a two-stroke advantage over Gordon Aden and Jim O’Rourke.
The tournament, with 108 golfers in the field, moves to Downriver today with the final round Sunday at The Creek at Qualchan.
Washington State scored three goals in less than 20 minutes to take a 3-1 season-opening nonconference victory over host Seattle. The Redhawks were leading 1-0 on a penalty kick when WSU’s Kailiana Johnson, with an assist from Mesa Owsley, scored after a scramble in front of the net at the 30th minute. Jocelyn Jeffers put in a shot from 5 yards out off a cross for a 2-1 lead at 45:30. Micaela Castain provided an insurance goal at 48:56. Kourtney Guetlein assisted on the last two goals.
• Mikayla Anderson received a ball from Sarah Carter down the right side that she put into the net in the 41st minute to give Gonzaga a 1-0 nonconference win over host Eastern Washington. Christie Tombari posted the shutout with three saves.
• Weber State had 13 shots on goal to Idaho’s two in taking a 3-0 victory in a nonconference season opener in Ogden, Utah.
