In brief: Suspect kills self after abducting wife
IMPERIAL, Neb. – A man who abducted his estranged wife from the Lincoln hair salon where she works has killed himself, the Nebraska State Patrol said.
The Imperial Republican reported that state police said searchers found 37-year-old Dwayne Lawrence’s body in a cornfield outside of Imperial on Sunday night.
His estranged wife, 38-year-old Julie Hanes, emerged from a field in the area earlier in the evening and appeared unharmed. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Lawrence abducted Hanes from the salon where she works at around noon on Saturday, police said. Her parents and some other family members live in Imperial, 260 miles west of Lincoln near Nebraska’s borders with Colorado and Kansas.
Three killed, six hurt in SUV rollover crash
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A pregnant woman and a child were among three people killed in an SUV crash that left six others injured in northern New Jersey, authorities said Sunday.
The crash happened Saturday night on state Route 15 near an intersection in Jefferson Township. Investigators said the vehicle suddenly swerved and left the roadway before overturning, ejecting several passengers.
Lucila Colon, 62, and Tevia Booth, 11, died at the scene, while Julissa Colon, 36, died later at a hospital, Morris County prosecutors said. Julissa Colon was five months pregnant, and her fetus didn’t survive.
The SUV’s driver, 37-year-old Luis Torres of Jersey City, was being held Sunday on $750,000 cash bail on three charges each of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide and five counts of assault by auto.
Amazon server glitch slows down websites
NEW YORK – Amazon’s unit that runs Web servers for other companies had problems Sunday that coincided with outages or slowdowns on several popular websites.
AirBnB, Instagram and Twitter’s Vine were slow or unavailable.
Online home rental service AirBnB tweeted that it was one of several websites and apps that were temporarily down because of Amazon server problems.
Instagram sent a tweet saying it was aware some users were having trouble loading Instagram and that it was working on the problem. Vine later sent a similar tweet.
