Indians take damaging loss

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Spokane Indians left little margin for error in their quest for the Northwest League North Division second-half title after suffering a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Vancouver Canadians on Monday. The Indians (15-17) find themselves trailing the AquaSox (18-14) by three games after Everett swept a doubleheader against Tri-City with six games left in the second half of the season. The good news is that Spokane closes out the regular season with three home games against Everett followed by three games at Everett. Spokane would have to win five of the six games to claim the second-half title. If the AquaSox – the first-half champs – win the second half they would play the North Division team with the second-best overall record. In that scenario, Spokane is 35-35 – one game behind Vancouver (36-34). Tri-City (31-39) is also in the mix. On Monday, the Indians, who trailed 1-0 at the time, scored their lone run in the top of the seventh inning when Ryan Cordell was hit by a pitch. He stole second and third base and scored on a two-out single by Jamie Jarmon. But Chaz Frank’s RBI single off Spokane reliever Luis Pollorena (1-2) in the bottom of the seventh put the Canadians back on top for good. 2014 schedule The Indians announced their schedule for the 2014 regular season. Spokane will open at home with a five-game series against Eugene beginning on June 13.
