Pig Out in the Park serves up $3 bites

Chocolate milk will be on the menu for Pilgrim’s Market’s field trip to Springs of Hope.

Got just the three bucks? You, too, can pig out. A little.

For the first time, vendors at Pig Out in the Park are offering $3 “bites” from their menus, during special hours.

The annual food and music festival starts today at Riverfront Park in downtown Spokane. It runs through Monday.

Hours for $3 bites: 2 to 4 p.m. and 10 to 11 p.m. today, Thursday and Monday; and 10 to 11 p.m. only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Prices for regular menu items run $9.50 or less.

Bands who’ll take the event’s three main stages include the Zombies and the Spin Doctors. For details on vendors and concert times, go to www.spokanepigout.com.

Pilgrim’s field day

Pilgrim’s Market is organizing a free daylong field trip to Springs of Hope, a raw creamery in Moyie Springs, Idaho, that also serves as a work program for at-risk youth.

Participants are invited to meet at 9 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Coeur d’Alene natural foods store, 1316 N. Fourth St., and carpool to the creamery, about 95 miles from Midtown.

“We want to educate our customers more about the local producers that we use and their products that we carry,” said Michal Bennett, the store’s marketing and events coordinator. Springs of Hope raw-milk products rank among the store’s top sellers, Bennett said.

Along with a tour of milk-production operations, visitors can go on a hayride and participate in a pole-barn raising. A barbecue lunch will be provided, followed by ice cream made with the creamery’s milk.

Sign up by Sept. 6 by calling Pilgrim’s at (208) 676-9730. Carpool drivers will receive gift certificates to the store.
