Moses Lake beefs up for Big Nine Conference

The Big Nine Conference receives two state playoff berths this fall, and Moses Lake should be in the mix for one of them.

The Chiefs return 10 starters, split equally on offense and defense, from a team that went 4-6 last year.

Eastmont captured the lone playoff berth last year.

The old Columbia Basin Big Nine split last year into two conferences with the northern most schools keeping the Big Nine label and the southern most schools forming the Mid-Columbia Conference.

Wenatchee, with talented track sprinter Isaiah Brandt-Sims at running back, is favored, Moses Lake coach Todd Griffith said.

“We’ve had a great summer,” Griffith said.

“They’ve worked extremely hard – as hard as any group I’ve been around. We used the APX (strength and conditioning) program and we’ve gotten bigger, stronger and in the best shape we’ve ever been.”
