Wallace returns all but one starter on offense

Wallace coach Dave Rounds expects to win the North Star League football championship each year.

His school is the biggest in the conference and has the biggest turnout each year.

Rounds has more than that at this disposal this year, though. The Miners return all but one starter on offense.

“We should once again dominate in the league in just sheer numbers alone,” Rounds said.

Wallace returns the offensive most valuable player in senior running back Levi Lemieux, who ran for more than 1,000 yards last year. He’ll run behind a line that returns four of five starters.

Lemieux also will start at outside linebacker.

“He’s clearly the best player in the league,” Rounds said. “He’s a big impact kid for us.”

Rounds, himself a lineman back in the day at Wallace, believes success begins in the trenches. The lone starter who graduated was at left guard and the Miners have replaced him.

“Our starting unit is as good as any we’ve had in recent years,” Rounds said. “The thing we’ve got to do is develop some depth.”

Wallace has beefed up its nonleague schedule in hopes of having a shot at beating a District II team come playoff time. The Miners will play defending 1A Division I champ Kamiah, Superior (Mont.), a defending state champ, and Touchet, which took third in 1B in Washington.
