Obituary: Lyons, Mary F.

Age 92

LYONS, Mary F. 08.14.1921 ~ 08.27.2013 She was born Mary Frances Ferrell August 14, 1921 to Charles O. Ferrell and Marie M. Ferrell (Meade).

Mary attended elementary school at St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School in Spokane and a Catholic boarding school in Marysville.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Holy Names College in Spokane with a degree in medical technology.

In 1949, she married James Michael Lyons with whom she raised two children.

Mary was an avid golfer and enjoyed annual family fishing trips to Curlew Lake and Neah Bay.

Mary spent the majority of her career working at the Inland Northwest Blood Center.

She retired as the INBC lab manager.

During her career she also served as a national blood bank inspector and worked with research teams from University of Washington Medical Center to advance blood testing technology and procedures.

She remained busy in retirement, volunteering countless hours at the Mann-Grandstaff Veterans Administration Medical Center and St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Mary is survived by her two married children: James (Joyce) Lyons and Karen (Allen) Parcher; her sister Martha Thill and brother Norbert Ferrell; seven grandchildren: Catherine (Richard) Holestine, Shaney (Mark) Jenkins, Brett (Tami) Lyons, Kelly Lyons, Brian Lux, Adam Parcher, Mary Lux; and 11 great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband James, twin sister Ruth Seaver, brother James Ferrell and great-granddaughter Audrea Holestine.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 31 at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home & Crematory, interment will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
