Huskies hold off Long Beach State in double OT

SEATTLE – Junior guard Mike Anderson scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Washington rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit for a 92-89 double-overtime victory over Long Beach State on Saturday.

Anderson converted a free throw with 14.2 seconds left in the second OT to give UW a three-point cushion. Mike Caffey got a clear look at a 3-pointer from the right wing but couldn’t hit the shot.

Six Huskies finished in double figures with Anderson leading the way.

With UW leading 81-80 in the first OT, Anderson’s steal led to an Andrew Andrews fast-break layup Darin Johnson’s basket pushed the lead to 85-80 with 2 minutes to play.

Caffey drilled a 3-pointer to cut UW’s lead to 85-83 with 42.2 seconds left. Anderson missed a layup with 14 seconds left and Caffey tied the game again with a driving layup to force a second OT.

C.J. Wilcox converted his first two 3-pointers of the game to move past Ryan Appleby for the most in UW history.
