No. 16 Whitworth men win at tournament
Colton McCargar scored 13 of his team-high 21 points in the second half and the 16th-ranked Whitworth men’s basketball team charged back to beat Carleton 70-61 at the Colorado Thanksgiving Classic Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
After trailing by as many as seven points in the first half, the Pirates (3-1) found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring the Knights 42-28.
George Valle added 13 points and Taylor Farnsworth contributed 11 points and 11 rebounds for Whitworth, which takes on the host school – Colorado College – this afternoon. Tianen Chen had 26 points for Carleton (0-3).
CC Spokane 83, Lower Columbia 82: Kwinn Hanson led three players in double figures with 20 points and the Sasquatch (2-1) withstood the Red Devils’ (0-2) second-half rally and won at the Red Devil Classic in Longview, Wash.
Sam Druffel added 15 points and Chase Haack chipped in 14 for CCS, which plays Mt. Hood today for fourth place.
No. 20 California 59, Idaho 55: Brittany Boyd scored 15 points as the Golden Bears (5-2) defeated the Vandals (4-3) in the Nugget Classic championship game in Las Vegas. Stacey Barr led Idaho with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Butler 74, Eastern Washington 51: Liz Stratman made 10 of 14 shots and finished with a game-high 25 points as the Bulldogs (3-4) pulled away in the second half and eased past the Eagles (0-5) at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas. Hayley Hodgins scored 16 points and Lexie Nelson added 12 for EWU.
North Idaho 72, CC Spokane 55: Renae Mokrzycki and Kara Staggs combined for 27 points to lead a balanced scoring attack and the Cardinals (8-1) took advantage of the Sasquatch’s early offensive struggles in a nonconference win in Coeur d’Alene. Riley Holsinger tallied a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds for the Sasquatch (3-3).
