Obituary: Cannon, Stephen Ray “Steve”

Age 57

CANNON, Stephen Ray “Steve” (Age 57) Stephen was born October 2, 1956 and passed away on November 28, 2013 at home in Spokane, Washington from heart failure.

Steve was born in Michigan to Genevieve and Ramey Cannon.

Ramey was in the Air Force so the family moved often throughout Steve’s childhood.

Steve graduated from Ben Eielson High School in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1974.

Steve and JoAnne Erickson married on May 29, 1980 in Reno, Nevada.

Steve and JoAnne Cannon settled in Spokane, Washington where they raised their children Justin, Brandon and Katy.

Steve worked for the United States Forest Service for three years and then the United States Postal Service.

He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2009 after 31 ½ years of service.

Steve was a family man and treasured his roles of husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and father-in-law.

Family and friends alike appreciated Steve’s kind, affectionate and fun-loving personality.

Steve valued spending time with those he held dear.

He loved fishing with his father, kids, nieces, nephews and grandchild and they spent time on many local lakes and rivers.

He also took a couple exciting and memorable fishing trips to Alaska with family and friends.

Steve and his sister Kaye were close friends.

Even though they lived in opposite sides of the state, Steve and JoAnne and Kaye and Dan raised the cousins Justin, Brandon, Katy, Jamie, Whitney and Riley as one big family.

Steve was also the “dad to the neighborhood” and kids who grew up in the area knew that Steve would always welcome and include them at the Cannon home.

Steve also enjoyed searching for deals at garage sales and he was a master of selling on eBay.

Some of his favorite finds were sports collectibles.

Steve was an all-around sports fan and passed this love along to his kids.

Additionally Steve was a 1970s rock music fan and his favorite bands included AC/DC and KISS.

Last year with great joy he attended a KISS concert at the Spokane Arena with friends and family.

Steve is survived by his wife JoAnne; son Justin (Merya); son Brandon (Tara); daughter Katy; granddaughter Olivia; sister Kaye (Dan Moore) and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve’s Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home followed by a Graveside Service at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
