Obituary: Malmoe, Melvin R.

Age 100

MALMOE, Melvin R. 8-11-1913 to 11-28-2013 A kind, gentle soul has left our presence.

Mel was last surviving child (of ten) of Martin and Daisy Malmoe, pioneers of Spokane area.

Mel worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, worked the rides at Natatorium Park, at the Renton Boeing Plant building B-17s where he met his future wife, Ivadelle (Olson) of Alvarado, Minn.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in1942.

After a distant courtship, Ivadelle and Mel married June 17, 1944 in Seattle and began a life of travelling and raising a family.

Mel worked as an auto mechanic at Bill Brown Chryslar-Plymonth until his retirement, and at the Coliseum, where he drove the Zamboni.

Mel was an avid hockey fan, following the Spokane team from it’s formation.

Mel loved camping and fishing, spending many occasions at Lake Koocanusa.

Mel is preceded in death, by Ivadelle, his wife of 42 years.

He is survived by son Larry (Dixie) Spokane WA; daughter Pamela Welch (Rodney) Detroit MI; daughter Diane Spokane WA; “adopted” daughter Vi Martin Spokane WA; grandsons Bobby Bryan and Hank Bryan, Spokane WA; great granddaughter Tricia (Paul) Hansen Spokane WA.

Memorial service will be at the Sunset Chapel Fairmount Memorial Park on Friday, December 6 at 1:00pm.

Interment to follow service.
