Measure lice treatment

Regarding the article “Of Lice and Men (Nov. 26),” I would be careful highlighting a treatment advertised by a non-medical provider that is not fully recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the American Academy of Pediatrics (both were later mentioned in the article).

There was a 2006 study in the journal Pediatrics that studied six types of thermal treatment of lice and the best method reported an 80 percent mortality of hatched lice. It was not clear to me what kind of training Brianne Ball received and how much her methods cost. The article stated that low-income families could receive funding through the schools if needed.

The school districts should base treatment of lice on evidence-based techniques and should consult the Spokane Regional Health District.
