WSU’s Bucannon, UW’s Sankey on Pac-12 first team

Safety Deone Bucannon of Washington State has been named first-team all-Pac-12, the conference announced on Monday. Joining Bucannon on the first-team list was Washington running back Bishop Sankey, who played his high school ball at Spokane’s Gonzaga Prep. Bucannon led the Cougars with 109 tackles this season, and tied for the team lead with five interceptions. He is the only WSU football player to be named either first or second-team all-conference, and the first Cougar to receiver first-team all-conference honors since Brandon Gibson in 2007. Earning honorable mention honors for the Cougars were senior kicker Andrew Furney, senior cornerback Damante Horton, freshman wide receiver River Cracraft, and senior offensive lineman Elliott Bosch (Ferris). Arizona State coach Todd Graham earned coach of the year honors from the conference after leading the Sun Devils to a 10-2 record and spot in the Pac-12 championship game in his second season. ASU defensive lineman Will Sutton was named the Pat Tillman defensive player of the year, while rival Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey was named the offensive player of the Year. Myles Jack out of Bellevue High School was named the freshman of the year on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Jack began the year as a linebacker, but started taking reps at running back because of injuries at the position. The freshman is second on the team with seven rushing touchdowns, and leads the Bruins with 11 passes defensed.
