Obituary: Olsen, Richard C. “Dick”
Age 93
Dick was born in Spokane, Washington on November 21, 1920 to Fred and Mildred Olsen.
He graduated from North Central High School in 1940.
He enlisted with the Army Air Corp, 35th Fighter Squadron as a radio technician and was stationed in Mindoro Philippines.
He was discharged from Fort Lewis, Washington on January 12th, 1946.
Dick married Lois Arlene Reynolds, his sweetheart, from Poplar, Montana on December 27, 1946.
They had two sons Len and Gary in 1950 and 1952.
Dick began his teaching career at School District 81 in Spokane as a teacher and coach.
Dick taught school at Finch Elementary, Glover, and Havermale for 31 years.
At that time Dick wanted a career change and retired in 1980.
Dick spent many years enjoying his property “the farm” in Deer Park, Washington where he tended apples, built a pole barn and spent many hours walking in the woods.
Dick affectionately referred to the farm as his golf course.
He is survived by his wife Lois of 67 years; son Len and his wife Carol; son Gary and wife Kathy; grandson Brian Olsen and wife Leny and their children Jay and Colette; granddaughter in-law Wooyoung; and great grandson Joshua.
Unfortunately, Dick’s grandson Jay preceded him in death.
Dick will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
He was a friend to all he met and loved to talk about WW II history and current events.
He was very sharp, full of life and concerned about the happiness of his family until he passed.
The lessons in responsibility Dick taught his students and family will always be appreciated now and in the future.
We will miss his challenges and reminders to do the “best we can” during the difficult times in our lives.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Sunset Chapel inside Fairmont Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 12:30 pm followed by a Graveside Service at Fairmount Memorial Park.
