Area colleges: Carr, Idaho women ease past Carroll

Stacey Carr scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Idaho women’s basketball team built a 27-point first-half lead and dumped Carroll 67-39 in a nonconference game Tuesday in Moscow, Idaho.

The Vandals held the Saints to 25-percent shooting and Carroll made just 4 of its 20 3-pointers.

• Caelyn Orlandi led four players in double figures with 19 points and Lewis-Clark State (12-0) kept its perfect record intact with a 79-69 nonconference win over Whitworth in Spokane.

The Pirates (3-2) led by a point at the half, but were outscored 44-33 after halftime.

Five Whitworth players tallied double-digit point totals. Kendra Lahue had a team-high 12.

• Renae Mokrzycki led five players in double figures with 19 points and 13 rebounds as North Idaho (10-1) held on in the second half to defeat Columbia Basin (3-2) 84-77 in a nonleague game in Coeur d’Alene.

Men’s basketball

Will Dorsey made 10 of 13 shots and finished with 26 points and five assists as North Idaho pulled away after halftime and beat Columbia Basin (2-3) 100-86 in a nonconference game in Coeur d’Alene.

Bryce Leavitt had 17 points and Jordon King added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals (9-2).

• Gonzaga senior forward Drew Barham is one of 201 nominees for the Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “Good Works Team.”

The award recognizes student-athletes who have made contributions to their communities through leadership, volunteerism and civic service.

• Arkadiy Mkrtychyan, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Portland, Ore., has signed to play for Idaho next season.

Mkrtychyan played at the Academy of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, as a sophomore before transfering to Portland’s Columbia Christian High School. He originally hails from Moscow, Russia.
