In brief: Latah election tie-breaker will be held Friday
LATAH – Two candidates for Latah City Council are still tied after a mandatory recount Tuesday.
Incumbent Patricia Neumann and Melanie Meagher, who currently holds a different seat on the council, are vying for Position 1. Both have 41 votes.
The tie will be broken at 1 p.m. Friday at the Spokane County Courthouse, 1116 W. Broadway Ave.
Two numbered balls will be placed in a shaker bottle. Each woman will be assigned a number, and the ball that is drawn will determine the winner.
Water utility board seeks new members
SPOKANE VALLEY – The Modern Electric Water Co. is accepting nominations for two positions on its board of directors.
Nominees must live within the district. The deadline is noon Dec. 27.
Board members will be elected during the annual meeting Feb. 22 at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place.

City of Liberty Lake’s winter festival set
LIBERTY LAKE – The city of Liberty Lake will host its annual Winter Festival and Tree Lighting Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall, 22710 E. Country Vista Drive.
The evening will include nighttime snow miniature golf, turkey bowling, hayrides, chestnut roasting, music, arts, crafts, photos with Santa, games, prizes and candy.

First Night festivities need volunteers
DOWNTOWN – More than 700 volunteers are needed to help with First Night festivities on Dec. 31.
Shifts are available starting at noon and running through the evening, including shifts from 5 to 7 p.m. helping with the parade.
Volunteers who help for four hours or more receive free admission to First Night events.

Pavillion Park friends will hold holiday ball
DOWNTOWN – The Friends of Pavillion Park will present its 16th Annual Liberty Lake Holiday Ball from 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Davenport Hotel, 10 S. Post St.
The evening includes a champagne reception, a three-course dinner, silent and live auctions, live music and dancing. Special room rates are available at the hotel.

Appleway Florist to host Santa photos
SPOKANE VALLEY – Santa Claus will be making appearances at Appleway Florist and Greenhouse on Saturdays in December.
People can purchase professional portraits or photo buttons for $6.50 to $7.50.
People can also bring their own camera and use the festive back drop.
Santa will appear from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday until Christmas. Appleway Florist is at 11006 E. Sprague Ave.

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum is looking for a volunteer to serve as a part-time administrative assistant.
The person should have a working knowledge of Microsoft programs and good communications skills.
