In brief: Election tie-breaker will be held Friday

From Local Reports

LATAH – Two candidates for Latah City Council are still tied after a mandatory recount Tuesday.

Incumbent Patricia Neumann and Melanie Meagher, who currently holds a different seat on the council, are vying for Position 1. Both have 41 votes.

The tie will be broken at 1 p.m. Friday at the Spokane County Courthouse, 1116 W. Broadway Ave.

Two numbered balls will be placed in a shaker bottle. Each woman will be assigned a number, and the ball that is drawn will determine the winner.

Groundbreaking for youth center planned

Browne’s Addition – The community is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for the Peaceful Valley Youth Program at All Saints Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Friday.

The church is at 314 S. Spruce St.

According to a news release, once the construction is complete, the new location will double the youth program’s capacity. The program is currently located in the Peaceful Valley Community Center.

“The Peaceful Valley Youth Program is a huge asset to this community,” said Spokane Councilman Jon Snyder in the release. “This new facility will expand the amount of people this program reaches.”
