Colville wins season opener

 

Matt Hubbard scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the second quarter as Colville recovered from a slow start and beat visiting Reardan 56-46 in a nonleague season opener Friday night in Colville.

Hubbard made 10 of 15 shots.

Colville trailed by five after the first quarter, but outscored Reardan 21-9 in the second quarter to take control.

Brandon Ruben led Reardan with 16 points.

Mt. Spokane 63, East Valley 53: Stu Stiles led the Wildcats with 27 points and Jacob Krantz added eight points as Mt. Spokane (1-1) topped the Knights (1-1) at East Valley. Mt. Spokane extended its six-point halftime lead to 20 at the end of the third, and held off East Valley’s fourth-quarter rally. J.T. Phelan recorded a double-double for the Knights with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Clarkston 73, Mountain View 70: C.J. Johnson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bantams (1-0) a win over Mountain View (Bend, Ore.) at Pendleton, Ore.

After Mountain View tied the game on free throws with 7 seconds left, Clarkston’s DePaul Blunt drove to the top of the key and, as the defense collapsed, fed a pass to Johnson, who nailed the game-winning shot.

Johnson finished with a game-high 21 points. Carson Holman scored 10 points and secured seven rebounds for the Bantams, and Blunt’s free throws were instrumental in an increasingly tight fourth quarter as he went 8 of 8 from the line.

Lewiston 48, Timberlake 44: The Bengals (1-1) used clutch free-throw shooting to edge the Tigers (0-2) at Spirit Lake. Jayden Rayner scored 19 points to lead Lewiston. Timberlake was led by Mason Cramer’s 17 points.

Chewelah 65, Springdale 58: Twin brothers Mason and McKenzie Miller combined for 31 points as the Cougars (1-1) slid past the visiting Chargers (0-3). Scott Stumpf added 13 points for Chewelah. Chandler Carr led Springdale with 14 points.

Colfax 71, St. John-Endicott 24: Danny Robinson poured in 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (1-0) past the visiting Eagles (0-1). Garrett Burke and Keith Gfellar chipped in 14 and 13, respectively, for Colfax. The Bulldogs controlled the glass, outrebounding the Eagles 28-17. Robert Staples scored 10 points for St. John-Endicott.

Kellogg 70, Mullan 26: Jessie Lambert scored 26 points to lead three Wildcats in double figures and Kellogg (2-0) defeated the Tigers (0-2) at the Silver Valley Tournament in Kellogg. Kellogg’s Tucker Gust scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Gus Colburn added 11 points, seven assists, and three steals in the win. TJ Placencio and Hunter Kaotshevar scored 10 and 12 points, respectively, for Mullan.

Lakeside (WA) 89, Priest River 39: Ryan Quigley scored 17 points, Cameron Gay added 16 and Justin Moffat had 13 points and three steals as the Eagles (1-0) dominated the Spartans (0-2) in Nine Mile Falls. Jimmy Koch led Priest River with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

St. George’s 59, Newport 27: Dexter Sienko scored 24 points and Erik Muelheims added 20 as the Dragons (2-0) dominated from the outset in a win over the host Grizzlies (1-1). Their dominating performances, as well as strong team rebounding, were the main impetus behind the decisive win.

Liberty 76, Wilbur-Creston 37: Liberty jumped out to an early lead and eased past the host Wildcats. Ryan Thayer erupted for 35 points and Match Burnham added 15 for Liberty.

Davenport 64, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 60: Wyatt Evers led the Gorillas (1-1) with 16 points and Tristan Abbott added eight rebounds as Davenport edged the host Warriors (0-1). Dallas Isaak tallied a game-high 26 points for Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

Columbia 41, Northport 35: Brayden Allen scored 22 points in leading the Lions (1-1) past the host Mustangs (0-2). The game was tied at halftime and tight in the second half until Clayton and Joshua Flett each hit late 3s to help Columbia pull away. Ben Short recorded seven steals, and Patrick Lamb added 18 points and 11 rebounds for Northport.

Valley Christian 61, Lakeside (ID) 49: Grant Marchant led all players with 24 points as the Panthers (1-0) defeated the Knights (1-1) in Plummer. Marchant connected on all eight of his shots inside the arc and was 2 of 5 from 3-point range.

Pomeroy 55, Asotin 51: The Pirates (2-0) received 12 points from Dayton Krull and 11 from Danny Daily in a win over the host Panthers (1-1). Max Ruchert scored 16 for Asotin.
