Obituary: Schmoock, Martin Vaughn “Pete”

SCHMOOCK, Martin Vaughn “Pete” September 23, 1932 - December 2, 2013 Pete went peacefully to his Creator on Monday, December 2nd.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dale; eight living children - Christal (Robert), Cathy (Dale), Carrie, Brenda (Mark), Sheila (Jere), Kathy (David), Lonna (Gary) and Michael (Sonja).

He was predeceased by sons Jim and Larry.

Pete also had 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pete served in the Air Force in the Korean conflict, was employed for 38 years with the J C Penney Company in Washington, Montana, Wyoming and California.

His passion was golf, and he could be found most Mondays at Wandermere Golf Course in North Spokane.

Following retirement in 1992 and for 10 years thereafter, Pete and Dale snow-birded to Arizona and California in their motorhome with many of their friends.

Pete will be remembered by friends and acquaintances as ‘the man who never changed’ - people who had known him 50 years or so previously would ask, ‘Didn’t you used to be Pete Schmoock?’

And when they asked, he could reply he still was!

His family will remember him as stubborn, generous, fond of a good joke or prank, and intensely in love with his wife.

Rest easy now, Pete, you’ve gone home.

Memorial Celebration of Life will be held December 12, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Heritage Funeral Home at 508 North Government Way in Spokane.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations made to your favorite charity in Pete’s name would be most appreciated.
