Proctor wins again

LAS VEGAS – Grand Coulee native Shane Proctor was the bull-riding winner for the second consecutive night at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Proctor rode Squirrel Grove to a score of 89 for the victory on Friday night, and again pocketed $18,629.81.

Only three competitors had qualifying rides in the second round. Tyler Smith of Fruita, Colo., was second with an 88 on Clubber Lang, and Cody Teel of Kountze, Texas, had an 85 on Baskin’s Buckmaster.

Three-time world-season champion J.W. Harris of Mullin, Texas, leads the standings with $138,196. Smith is second with $113,809, followed by Proctor with $113,108 and Teel with $104,181. Proctor started the NFR in 10th place, and, with eight rounds remaining, is in good position to regain the world title he won in 2011.

Ryan Gray of Cheney tied for sixth in bareback riding aboard Molly with a score of 82 to win $3,906.25.

Team ropers Riley and Brady Minor from Ellensburg finished just out of the money with a seventh-place finish after a time of 5.30 seconds.

Tyson Durfey of Colbert was 14th in tie-down roping with a time of 18.30.

In all-around, defending champion Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, maintained his big lead over Tuf Cooper, also from Decatur. Brazile, who tied for fifth in tie-down roping in the second round, has earned $262,098. Cooper has made $136,930.

Brazile has won 10 of the last 11 all-around titles and has a total of 18 gold buckles.
