Lynden defeats Tumwater 38-28 for 2A state title

TACOMA – Jaremy Martin ran for two touchdowns to help Lynden beat Tumwater 38-28 on Saturday for its third consecutive 2A state title.

Sterling Somers completed 16 of 21 passes for 263 yards and one touchdown for Lynden (14-0). He also ran for a touchdown.

Alex Otano-Guenther converted a 40-yard field goal with 1:34 left in the game to give the Lions a two-score lead.

Martin ran 20 yards for a score to put Lynden up 28-13 at halftime. He added an 8-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter to make the score 35-13. He had 90 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Jayden Croft rushed for two touchdowns to lead Tumwater (13-1). He also completed 8 of 15 passes for 82 yards.

Lynden won its sixth 2A title, including five of the last six. The Lions beat Tumwater 41-7 in last year’s championship game. Tumwater won the title in 2010.
