Don’t dump in river
I’m writing to add to Rachael Osborn’s Nov. 17 letter. There is a drastic decline in the animal life at the Seven Mile area. In the past 10 years, the beaver, otter and birds have almost disappeared. Osprey, owls and Canadian geese are almost gone, whereas they were present in large numbers earlier. Swallows and bats have disappeared along with rodents, snakes and raccoons. We can assume the fish are few.
Well water for human consumption is at risk.
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) have been blamed, and there may well be other unrecognized contaminants. I think the publishers of the newspapers should seek other means of disposal, instead of dumping it in the river in increasing amounts.
