Greinacher’s week earns WCC honor

Sunny Greinacher, a junior forward on the Gonzaga University women’s basketball team, was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week.

Greinacher helped the 24th-ranked Bulldogs to three wins last week as they improved to 7-1, averaging 14.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.7 assists, while shooting a blistering 59.4 percent (19 of 32) from the field.

Greinacher scored a season-high 18 points and had a career-high 14 rebounds in helping the Zags earn a one-point win at Ohio State on Sunday. She had 10 points in the final half and added three blocks and two assists. The double-double is the first of Greinacher’s career.

Gonzaga plays at Wisconsin at 5 p.m. today.

• Idaho junior guard Stacey Barr was named Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week.

She had two 20-point games as the Vandals went 2-1 last week.

Swimming

Whitworth swimmers posted several season-best times at the Husky Invitational during the weekend.

Brandon Smith had the highest individual finish for the Pirates when he placed seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 16 minutes, 35.36 seconds. Kevin Moore was 19th in 17:01.64.

Bridget Louis was the only Whitworth woman in the 1,650 and finished 23rd in 18:14.92.

The Whitworth men’s A team was 11th (3:14.19) and the women’s A team 12th (3:38.53) in 400 freestyle relays.

The Pirates didn’t compete Sunday, returning home to prepare for final exams this week.
