KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon State Police said a southern Oregon man and his sister-in-law were killed and his brother was seriously injured when their Jeep Cherokee was hit by a freight train at a marked rail crossing south of Klamath Falls.
Police identified the SUV driver in Tuesday’s collision as MacKenzie Conway, 33. He and his sister-in-law, Kalla Conway, 25, died at the scene.
Rear-seat passenger Nicholas Conway, 27, was ejected and seriously injured but was able to walk across U.S. Highway 97 to a market to get help. He was taken to a hospital.
State police said Nicholas and Kalla Conway were married. The driver and the surviving passenger were brothers.
All were from Klamath Falls.
In a statement, police said the SUV was traveling on a gravel frontage road paralleling the railroad tracks when it tried to cross the tracks and was hit in the passenger side by a northbound Union Pacific Railroad train.
