Area roundup: Griz pull away from Vandals for 69-58 men’s hoops victory

Kareem Jamar scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures and Montana pulled away in the final five minutes to defeat Idaho 69-58 Wednesday night in Missoula in the 180th meeting between the two schools.

Michael Weisner started the winning surge with 5:10 left in the second half for the Grizzlies (2-4), breaking a tie at 52 with a 3-pointer. Mario Dunn made four free throws and Weisner and Jamar followed with 3s. In all it was a game-closing 17-6 surge for Montana.

Connor Jordan led Idaho (4-6) with 24 points and Bira Seck had 11, plus 13 rebounds.

• Whitworth University has moved up the game time for the Monday matchup with Southwestern University and is offering free admission to the game, which is now scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

The game, originally scheduled at 8 p.m., will be the only time fans can attend the game for free.


Stacey Barr scored 19 points to lead four Vandals in double figures as Idaho rode a dominant first half to beat Lewis-Clark State College 84-53 in an exhibition in Moscow.

Ali Forde added 14 points and 14 rebounds, Megan Austgulen scored 13 points and Brooke Reilly pitched in with 10 points for the Vandals, who led 84-53 at the break. Caelyn Orlandi led LCSC with 17 points.
