Indians’ wrestlers get past Bears

North Central’s wrestlers pulled out a close victory over Central Valley, 33-30 in a Greater Spokane League match Wednesday at CV.

The Bears won six of the first seven matches, but the Indians stormed back and won six of the latter seven, winning on extra points.

Other GSL matches: Mt. Spokane held on to edge host Ferris, 36-27. … Visiting Rogers took an early lead but eventually fell to Lewis and Clark 51-24. … Visiting University defeated Gonzaga Prep 79-12, with two double forfeits to close the match. … Mead won all but two matches to win at Shadle Park, 63-12.

Great Northern League: Clarkston jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Pullman 64-18.

Nonleague: Lakeside won six of the first seven matches in a 42-30 victory against West Valley at Deer Park. … West Valley defeated Riverside 57-27 at Deer Park. … Deer Park edged Lakeside 36-34 at Deer Park. Cody Devore recorded his first win with a dual-clinching pin at 220 pounds. … Deer Park beat Riverside 60-24,

Boys basketball

A young Northport team could not keep up with Kettle Falls’ diversity of scorers, falling 49-23. Matthew Dunlap and Cole Wren both scored 10 for the Bulldogs. … Coeur d’Alene beat visiting Timberlake 62-34.

Girls basketball

Emily Owens scored 12 points and Kettle Falls forced 30 turnovers in a 69-15 nonleague win at Northport, which was led by Kathy Higgins with 10 points.

Gymnastics

McKenzie Carter excelled in all four events, winning the beam and vault as Central Valley won a GSL meet at North Central. CV finished with 159.775 points, University 139.2, North Central 133.925, Lewis and Clark 124.25 and Rogers 73.725.
