Colbert roper Durfey places fifth

LAS VEGAS – Washington cowboys didn’t make much of a mark in Round 8 of the National Finals Rodeo on Thursday night.

Colbert tie-down roper Tyson Durfey was the only one to cash a check, picking up $4,807.69 for a fifth-place finish. His time was 7.3 seconds. He is 15th in the average.

Brothers Riley and Brady Minor of Ellensburg had a 9.6-second time in team roping, finishing out of the money. They are second in the average.

Cheney bareback rider Ryan Gray and Grand Coulee bull rider Shane Proctor were both bucked off. Gray dropped to 11th in the average while Proctor fell a spot to third.

Bareback rider Kaycee Feild won for the second consecutive round, scoring 83.5 points on Cool Water.

Seeking a third consecutive season title, Feild also leads the average with 663 points for eight rides. He’s trying to become the first rider to win three straight titles in the average since Jack Ward Jr. in 1974-76.
