Obituary: Dayharsh, John Ernest
Age 88
After his sister Mary Alice (Dayharsh) Price, and his brother Fred Lawrence Dayharsh were born, the family moved to Spokane to be near family in the early 1930’s.
They were members of Manito Methodist Church.
John graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and joined the army where he helped in the clean-up of Manila after World War II.
He attended Washington State University and graduated with a degree in Geography, Geology and History.
John went to work at Kenworth Auto Parts, and then to Jacks Motor Parts for over 30 years.
Napa Auto Parts awarded him a certificate of excellence and a special Napa Auto Parts jacket.
He wore that jacket for many years with great pride.
After retiring he worked for the City of Spokane for five years.
Although John never married he enjoyed family and friends very much.
He took care of his parents until their passing.
He also had a great influence on his nieces.
He taught them about hiking, climbing and folk singing.
He was a kind and gentle man and brought great happiness into Marian (Dayharsh) Norberg and Susan (Dayharsh) Halverson’s lives.
John was a hike leader and Honorary Member of the Spokane Mountaineers Club.
He led over 200 hikes.
He often hiked alone but enjoyed his hiking time with the Mountaineers the most.
John was preceded in death by his father, Frank C Dayharsh; his mother Alice Dayharsh; his sister Mary Price; and his niece Marian Norberg.
He is survived by his brother Fred Dayharsh (Mary Kay); Joan Dayharsh; John Norberg; his niece Susan Halverson (Darrell); his great nieces, Tracey Norberg (Brandon McDonald and Christy Reed; his great nephew, Dale Halverson (Stacy); and nine great-great nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers Johnny would have appreciated donations to Spokane Mountaineers Club at spokanemountaineers.org.
