Boys roundup: St. George’s defeats Liberty to open Northeast 2B

St. George’s senior Erik Muelheims scored 28 points and the defending State 2B champion Dragons surged in the third quarter and beat Liberty 69-50 in a Northeast 2B League opener Friday night at St. George’s.

Dexter Sienko added 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocks and Will Tender chipped in 16 points for the Dragons.

St. George’s (5-0, 1-0) outscored the Lancers 23-10 in the third quarter to expand on its three-point halftime lead.

Match Burnham and Ryan Thayer scored 18 points apiece for Liberty (4-1, 1-0).

Colfax 45, Davenport 41: Keith Gfeller scored a game-high 22 points as the Bulldogs (2-1, 1-0) overcame a slow start and edged the host Gorillas (2-2, 0-1). Max Mielke scored 14 points to lead Davenport, which saw its 14-5 first-quarter lead quickly disappear.

Northwest Christian 70, Reardan 38: The Crusaders (4-0, 1-0) overwhelmed the host Indians (2-2, 0-1). Jonathan Morris led a Northwest Christian barrage with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Ryan Ricks added 10. NWC had a hot shooting night all-around, as the team hit eight 3-pointers. All four of the Crusaders wins have been by at least 20 points. Brandon Ruben tallied a team-high 17 points for Reardan.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 64, Chiawana 49: Devin Kluss scored 16 points and dished out five assists as the Vikings (3-0) defeated the Riverhawks in Pasco. Coeur d’Alene’s Colby Daniels, Ryan Walde and Tony Naccarato added 11 points apiece.

Richland 83, Post Falls 57: Payton Radliff tallied a game-high 28 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Bombers took control in the second quarter and routed the host Trojans (2-2). Corey Koski led Post Falls with 20 points.

West Valley 65, Sandpoint 48: Jake Love scored 30 points and Brandon Ray secured 10 rebounds as the Eagles (5-0) built an early advantage and topped the visiting Bulldogs (3-2). Alex Hall added 16 points for West Valley. Sandpoint was led by Jeremiah Gagnon’s 13 points.

Pullman 64, Lewiston 33: Race Martin led all scorers with 24 points and added nine rebounds as the Greyhounds (2-0) dominated in the middle two quarters and eased past the host Bengals (1-3). David Ungerer added 17 points for Pullman.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 42, Columbia (Burbank) 35: Connor O’Neill scored 18 points and the visiting Broncos overcame a shaky third quarter to defeat the Coyotes in LRS’ season opener. The Broncos outscored Columbia 12-3 in the fourth after the Coyotes erased a nine-point halftime deficit with a 21-10 third-quarter run. Cort Ruzicka added eight points and seven rebounds for LRS.

Wellpinit 68, Rosalia 67: Brodie Ford banked in a 3-pointer in the final minute to lead the Redskins (3-1) to a win over the visiting Spartans (0-2). Rosalia used a 24-7 third-quarter run to roar back into the game, but Ford’s 3, part of his 25-point night, gave the Redskins a lead for good. James Best added 17 for Wellpinit, while Rosalia’s Craig Nelson led all scorers with 36.

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 57, Deer Park 43: The Eagles (2-1) capitalized on the Stags’ 24 turnovers and cruised to a win in Deer Park. Poor free-throw shooting also played a role. The Stags (3-1) made 11 of 27 from the line and couldn’t keep pace with Lakeside. The Eagles’ Cody Watkins led all scorers with 20 points. Deer Park’s Avery Miller had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Kettle Falls 67, Inchelium 23: Connor McKern scored 18 points and Tyler Johnson and Chris Boring added 10 apiece as the Bulldogs (4-1) dominated from the opening tip and raced past the visiting Hornets (0-1).

Odessa-Harrington 48, Soap Lake 28: Jacob DeWulf scored eight of his game-high 16 points in the decisive fourth quarter as the Titans (2-0) surged late and beat the visiting Eagles. Bo Nielsen added nine points and nine boards for Odessa-Harrington, which gave up 10 points in the second half.

Lakeside (Plummer) 65, Kootenai 44: Doug Brown led all scorers with 18 points as the Knights (3-1) beat the Warriors (0-2) at the North Star Tournament in Plummer. Lakeside also had contributions from Dough Schatz (17 points, six rebounds), Jordan Nilson (14 points, five steals) and Hunter Kolar (five points, seven assists). Jake Pheiffer was Kootenai’s top scorer with 17.

Northeast 1B North

Cusick 65, Republic 59: Alec Bluff scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to guide the Panthers (3-0, 1-0) past the visiting Tigers (1-1, 0-1). Cusick’s Cameron Bauer scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Taylor Campbell led Republic scorers with 18 points.

Columbia 57, Northport 32: Kurtis McDowell scored 22 points and Clayton Flett added 15 as the host Lions (2-3, 1-0) beat the Mustangs (0-5, 0-1) in Hunters.

Curlew 55, Selkirk 44: Mathan Knapp had 11 points and 11 rebounds as the Cougars (3-0, 1-0) took control after halftime and beat the visiting Rangers (0-3, 0-1). Daniel Tresham (13 points) and Cody Grumbach (10 points) each made 5 of 7 shots for Curlew. Selkirk was led by Dominic Cain with 17 points.

Southeast 1B

LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 58, Tekoa-Oakesdale 30: Darcy Stamper scored 26 points and Joe Guske added 14 as the Tigercats (1-0, 1-0) eased past the Nighthawks (0-1, 0-1) in Washtucna. Cooper Angelo scored nine points for T-O.

Pomeroy 70, St. John-Endicott 24: Cole Mayfield led four Pirates (5-0, 1-0) in double figures with 17 points as Pomeroy overwhelmed the visiting Eagles (0-2, 0-1). Bryan McGreevy added 11 points for the Pirates, who built a 47-7 halftime lead.

Garfield-Palouse 81, Liberty Christian 27: Wyatt Griner led three players in double figures with 14 points as the Vikings (2-1, 1-0) beat the Patriots in Palouse.
