Business focus: K9 Country Club like ‘Davenport for dogs’

There is a new one-stop shop for pet owners opening in Spokane Valley today.

K9 Country Club is 12,000 square feet of pet store, grooming, boarding, doggy day care, training and hydrotherapy for your pooch.

“(It’s) the Davenport for dogs,” said co-owner Nick Lungu.

Lungu and his wife, Jacqueline, have been breeding German shepherds and training dogs for about 15 years. Their training business, I-Guard International, has been growing since they moved to the area from Pullman, and they wanted to branch out into a larger business.

“This has kind of been a dream,” Jacqueline Lungu said.

They offer boarding for your dogs and cats, and pets with special diets or on medications are OK. They have 52 boarding kennels and can take any size dog.

There is a big yard with synthetic turf in the back that is double fenced. Upstairs, there are doggy suites with couches, beds and televisions.

In the day care, there is an area for big dogs to play separately from the little ones. Every room has a camera, so if you are missing your pet while you are at work, you can log on and check out your pet to see how much fun they are having.

The Lungus offer obedience, safety or problem-solving training.

There is a room for grooming – they have three big bathing stations and offer services for both dogs and cats.

Another room is dedicated to canine hydrotherapy. Jacqueline Lungu said dogs recovering from hip or knee surgery can use the giant aquatic tub to swim in water that’s been heated to 75 degrees.

“Swimming is the best kind of exercise a dog could get,” she said.

Jacqueline Lungu said there is someone on the premises at all times.

Right now, the Lungus have six employees and are hoping to hire two more after the opening.

“We’ll add more people as we get busier,” she said.

Today, K9 Country Club will be celebrating its grand opening, and the Lungus have dreams of a grand pet experience for the pets and their owners.

“We really wanted to have a place that’s like nothing else,” Jacqueline Lungu said.
