Around the remote: ‘Psych: The Musical’

Chuck Barney Mcclatchy-Tribune

Don’t miss

“PSYCH: THE MUSICAL”: The producers have been talking about it for years and now they’ve finally created a two-hour spectacle that is equal parts mystery and melody. Fourteen original songs highlight the episode in which Shawn and Gus (James Roday, Dule Hill) try to track down a playwright (Anthony Rapp), who was declared criminally insane after trapping a critic in a theater and burning it down. Can they get their man? More importantly, can they hit the high notes? 9 p.m. Sunday, USA.

Other bets

SUNDAY: In a Christmas-themed episode of “The Simpsons,” snow comes to Springfield, but only because of a radiation leak at the nuclear plant. D’oh! 8 p.m., Fox.

SUNDAY: Give thanks. We’ve made it through another season of “Survivor” without any cannibalism. Still, there has been plenty of back-stabbing and smack-talking, which comes to an end in tonight’s finale. 8 p.m., CBS.

SUNDAY: “Wine to Water: A CNN Heroes Special Presentation” is a new documentary that showcases the extraordinary work of Doc Hendley, who has helped bring safe drinking water to thousands of needy people across the globe. 8 p.m., CNN.

MONDAY: Well, it’s about time. On “How I Met Your Mother,” Marshall (Jason Segal) finally makes it to the Farmhampton Inn, where a wedding guest is intentionally trying to stir up trouble. 8 p.m., CBS.

TUESDAY: They proved they could carry a tune. Now, on the season finale of “The Voice,” someone will carry away the top prize, which includes a lucrative record deal. 9 p.m., NBC.

TUESDAY: “How Sherlock Changed the World” is a compelling documentary that takes Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth from fiction to reality and examines how he had a revolutionary impact on actual criminal investigations. 8 p.m., KSPS; 9 p.m., KCDT.

WEDNESDAY: We fully expect Miley Cyrus to be among “The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013” when Barbara Walters reveals her annual list tonight. Then again, the title says “fascinating,” not “polarizing.” 9:31 p.m., ABC.

WEDNESDAY: If you’re not already sick of hearing holiday tunes on the radio and in department stores, by all means check out “Michael Bublé’s 3rd Annual Christmas Special.” This year’s guests include Mary J. Blige and Cookie Monster. 10 p.m., NBC.

THURSDAY: It’s time to face the music on “The X Factor” finale as Simon Cowell and the gang crown a Season 3 winner. But do the pop charts beckon? 8 p.m., Fox.

FRIDAY: A holiday Ball? Sort of. The “I Love Lucy Christmas Special” pairs a couple of newly colorized episodes, including “Lucy’s Italian Movie” and a seldom-seen yuletide installment from 1956. 8 p.m., CBS.

SATURDAY: “Saturday Night Live” alum – and future “Tonight Show” main man – Jimmy Fallon returns to host the show’s Christmas episode. The musical guest is fan favorite Justin Timberlake. 11:30 p.m., NBC.
