Obituary: Gilbertson, Alvin J. “Al”

GILBERTSON, Alvin J.

“Al” (Age 93) Alvin “Al” Julean Gilbertson was born in Huntington, Iowa to Hannah Warling-Gilbertson and Arthur Gilbertson on January 31, 1920.

He met his wife Eveyln Marie Alstrom in Lincoln, Nebraska and they were married in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 6th 1941.

Al was proud to be a World War II veteran and served as a Pharmacists Mate First Class in Australia and the Philippines.

After the war, he worked in sales for a while before accepting a position with the Fruehauf Corporation.

He served as a branch manager in several cities before retiring in 1984 after 35 years of service.

He moved to Spokane in 1984 to be closer to family and became an active member of the Downtown Rotary Club.

Al was always positive and chose to see the best in everyone he met; he truly believed that each day was a gift.

Al was preceded in death by both parents, as well as a brother Arnie.

He lost his wife Eveyln in 2009 after 68 years of marriage.

He is survived by his daughters Linda Shea and Sharrie Patrick; grand- children Greg Shea, Michelle (Mike) Grabicki, Chris (Denise) Byrne; great-grandchildren Courtney Crace and Jaxon Grabicki all of Spokane Valley; great-grandson Ryan Byrne of Frederick, Colorado and his brother Gil (Pat) Gilbertson in California as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Military Honors will be at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake on December 16, 2013 at 1:30 p.m.

He is truly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
